Being bipolar is like being in a boat out at ocean by yourself and in one hand, you hold the chain to an anchor and in the other hand you hold the strings to a kite. The kite is the mania and the anchor is the depression. Your job is to keep the kite from pulling you away and keep the anchor from bringing you down to the bottom of the ocean. Being bipolar is that fine balancing act of keeping yourself afloat in the boat with the kite and the anchor and you have to hold on really fucking tight
Jacob - Collage Portrait.
Day 2 of college. I loved the collage making today, it was unique ans original and you could go by a number of things. Many people in group D creating a face, however I listened to Jacobs introductory sentence about him being on holiday with his friends and how he got several initials on his bum and imagined that side to him rather than the shy person sat opposite myself.
Wearing mostly black and white, I have included b&w cut outs to make the background. Jacob himself is actually in the bottom left corner. I seen this face in a games magazine and thought he was rather good-looking so I made that link there.
Another thing to comment on was the word ‘psych’ I used on the representative ‘Jacob’. He actually had on his t-shirt the word ‘thrashed’ and thought that both the words had the same effect in terms of sound and the way you pronounced it.
The bottles of bear obviously represent the holiday again, baring in mind this is the only thing I know about Jacob so far.
I liked this activity a lot as it got the group more intertwined and socializing. It was also amazing to see a portrait of myself from someone else’s perspective, in a way I’ve never seen before. I’ve always had drawings or painting portraits but never a collage, so that was a fun experience.
Overall I really like this piece, I think it captures more personality than facial features etc, but it works for me.
